List Building Secrets? Bah Humbug!
Someone recently asked me why list building was difficult. I stared at him and I asked why he thought it was difficult, and the response he gave me was appalling! This guy actually thought that list building was an expense. That if he didn't have a list, he would save lots of money because he'd seen all the problems with PPC and the like that actually cost him more now. I scratched my head and told him "look - if you don't spend this money to build a list, you'll never be able to consistently make any income". It took a little more convincing before he realized the trouble he was in (he's in the recipe business, the niche I shall decline to name). Is it really that hard to understand? I mean all we're saying is send traffic and capture it. I mean, use Get Response or something. You might even learn how to set up name squeeze or opt-in pages. Or if all else fails, learn to use a traffic and lead building system the way Simon Leung does it at AdwordsListBuildingTips.com. You see - it's no longer about being able to make money instantly. You still need to cultivate some kind of relationship with your list members. In fact, David Perdew of MyNicheWidget.com is quite a phenomenon. I noticed that his emails are personal, highly interactive, and jog the imagination of the reader! Talk about a master of writing emails! So, why don't you just register for his widget for free, then read the emails that he writes? List building isn't a mystery. It shouldn't be. It's merely something that you have to do, and if you stinge and save, you'll be sorry that you didn't do it earlier. The truth remains - past customers are more likely to be customers again because they trust you. So, build a strong relationship with your list, and get them to constantly be involved in your life (or your organization's life).
